The SIX Swiss Exchange derivatives market is divided into four product groups along the same lines as the
classification model used by the Swiss Structured Products Association (SSPA) :
The four product groups are broken down further into individual product types, in accordance with the SSPA
classification model. A complete list of product types is available (in German and French) on the
SSPA Website .
Generally speaking, derivatives are financial instruments, the value of which is based on the price of
the underlying securities or reference rates ("underlyings").
For regulatory purposes, derivative products, which in recent years have evolved into a major segment of
the Swiss market, are subsumed under the term "debt securities" along with bonds.
Since 1 January 2007, all derivatives admitted by the SIX Swiss Exchange have been traded on the
Scoach Switzerland Ltd platform.
Thanks to the Internet Based Listing (IBL) online
application used for the derivatives market, derivative products can obtain within minutes the
regulatory status of
"provisionally admitted to trading"
and can be traded already one day later.
